Rodrigo Maia is Executive Board Member and T&I Director of Capgemini Engineering. Formerly, Chief Technology Officer of Altran Portugal since 2016.
As Senior Executive with more than 20 years of experience, Rodrigo is a strong and respected leader in technology and innovation. He has strong record of accomplishment on software systems for Automotive, Aerospace, Energy and Mobility domains where he has held executive leadership roles in Technology Strategy, Engineering Management, R&D Strategy and Management, Software Development, Business Development and Operations.
Over the last 5 years at Altran, he was responsible for building from scratch a Business Unit on Intelligent Systems focused on SW development for embedded systems. Serving Automotive OEMs and Tier 1, Aeronautics and Industrial&Electronics clients the unit established it as a reference within Altran Group with reaching more the 300 SW Engineers size.
Simultaneously he was responsible for establishing the R&D strategy and responsible for delivering new innovative solutions for the group. By growing company investment on R&D initiatives YoY, his team has setup a self-sustained ecosystem capable of delivering new solutions and cutting edge expertise: from 5G to Brain Controlled UAVs, from Quantum communication and cryptography to Innovative SW based Medical Devices platforms, this unit drives top-line revenues increase enabling the win of new projects and new clients.
More recently, Rodrigo co-founded and became CEO of VORTEX CoLab, a new center for applied research and technology transfer, resulting from the joint-venture between Altran, three Portuguese research centers: NOVALincs/UNL; CISTER/ISEP and HASLab/INESCTEC and Beta-i. Its purposes is to accelerate cutting-edge applied research into tangible products, providing competitive advantage to clients who want the most advanced solutions to the market combining the university research capacity with a strong business drive.Reputed for his out-the-box thinking, and strong commitment skills he has successfully led breakthrough initiatives ranging from embedded SW for automotive and space, electric mobility, smart metering, predictive maintenance.
Rodrigo has been an active member of the European R&D community where he has served as Steering Board member in the Artemis-Industry Association, contributing to Strategic Research Agenda of EU on Cyber physical Systems and leading the Portuguese contribution to several EU funded projects. Rodrigo holds a an Global Executive MBA from IESE Business School and a BSc with Honors and and MSc in Computers and Electrotechnical Engineering from the University of Coimbra.
