Pedro Afonso is passionate about leadership and organisational transformation.
An influencer in the importance of giving back as a leader, Pedro is a regular speaker at conferences, delivering a memorable communication experience and sharing unique insight as he talks, enthusiastically and passionately, about leadership, people and the future. His pragmatic, positive and compassionate attitude is held in high regard by national media.
He joined VINCI Energies in 2017 to head up Axians Portugal and has been at the helm of VINCI Energies Portugal since 2019. VINCI Energies is part of the VINCI Group and comprises companies specialising in engineering, consulting, development and implementation, maintenance and management of solutions and systems for energy transition and digital transformation, across 55 countries.
Pedro began his career as an engineer at Octal Engenharia de Sistemas (INESC - Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science). He later joined Novabase as Managing Director of Novabase IMS (Infrastructures and Managed Services) and member of the Novabase SGPS Executive Committee.
A former student of the Colégio Militar military school, he proudly wears the shako pin on his lapel. Pedro graduated in computer science and engineering, with a specialisation in computing systems, from Instituto Superior Técnico (University of Lisbon’s School of Engineering and Technology). He completed the Advanced Management Program at Católica University and the Entrepreneurship for Venture Capital and Design Thinking course at Stanford University, in California. He is committed to continuous learning.
Pedro is married and the proud father of three. His family are his rock. Horse riding and capturing meaningful moments with is camera helps him replenish his energy so that he can lead the group of companies he currently oversees and the more than 1,800 employees he works with. Pedro believes that leading teams and corporate projects are only meaningful if they help build a more humane and sustainable future – his way of giving back in return for what life has given him.
